Tom Eplin originated the role of Jake McKinnon on Another World in February, 1985. He played the role until June 1999 when Another World went off the air. At that time the character moved to Oakdale, the fictional town in As The World Turns. Eplin was born on October 25, 1960 in Hayward, California. He has a brother Dan and a sister Cheri. Tom studied acting at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. His theater credits include Bus Stop and Ben. His television credits include The Facts of Life, 240 Robert and Private Practice. He appeared in the feature films Discovery Bay, Sunset Strip, and Enchanted Evening. Eplin is a licensed pilot and flies his own plane. Eplin has been married and divorced twice. He was previously married to former AW co-star Ellen Wheeler (1985 to 1988) and then married to Courtney Gibbs (1991 to 1995)

On Another World Jakes's parents were Alice and Ray McKinnon. Kathleen, Ben, M.J. and Cheryl McKinnon were his cousins. Vince McKinnon was his uncle. Jake was married to Marley Hudson and then to Paulina Cory Carlino. He and Vicky Hudson were married and Donna Love and he were lovers. He then got back together with Vicky Hudson.

On ATWT, Vicky was killed in a plane crash. She was pregnant with twins at the time.
Jake is now engaged to Molly Conlan and they are both raising the twin girls together. Jake also works for Lucinda Walsh.
